Oblivion Reloaded isn't included, but given its popularity I'm going to mention which mods to ignore if you want to use it with this modlist. This guide assumes that the user has Shivering Isles and KOTN installed, anyone that doesn't can just skip over the DLC related mods though. I'm still having spacing issues, but I think I've got most of the marking down.An up to date, ENB compatible guide focused on improving Oblivion's visuals without drastically altering anything from its original appearance. Of course, there's still a large amount of discourse, and I'd be happy to discuss any other points of contention!Īctually, one point came up that I'd like to touch on: Is pay-to-win or pay-to-save-time inherently bad, or can it be done well? Has it ever been done well? Is it only evil in multiplayer, or is it also evil in single-player? I saw one interesting comment that argued it's not inherently poor form, but not much else. Also, an important distinction between "On-Disc" and "Day-1" is the fact that development time exists between a disc "going gold" and hitting the streets to sell - on-disc is seen as more abusive than day-1.
That's the general consensus I'm seeing, if I'm not mistaken.Ĥ: Almost never, except in extremely rare cases (or not at all, in many peoples' eyes). If it's required for the main game to be good, it's bad. Expansions, but there's a real fuzzy area in between.ģ: If it improves it, it's good. Generally, though, I've narrowed down my findings to this, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.ġ: Purely cosmetic DLC can be a bad deal, or it can be an okay deal, but it does not inherently harm anything by existing.Ģ: Still a bit uncertain on the difference - magnitude is important, and there's clear DLC vs.

I'm not too certain how to properly space things - but I will research proper formatting and fix this when I can!)ĮDIT2: Huge amount of discussion. Please correct me if you feel any of these points are incorrect, or if further nuancing is required. Now, there are points where consensus starts to break down.ġ: Is purely cosmetic DLC ever a bad thing?Ģ: What's the difference between a full-blown expansion and DLC? Is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon DLC, or an expansion? Half Life 2 Episodes? Diablo 3's recent release?ģ: When is DLC that impacts the main game ever a good thing?Ĥ: Is "Day-1 DLC" or "On-disc DLC" where content has already been created and is part of the game, but behind a paywall, ever justifiable? What companies have done DLC correctly? What makes DLC "good", in your opinion? Are expansions DLC that have enough content to justify their price tag? I'm genuinely curious.īased on my analysis of the huge number of comments so far, some things I've seen are almost universally agreed-upon:Ģ: A large amount of content (Read: similar to old-day "expansion packs") is highly preferred.ģ: The base game must be a whole, complete, self-contained product, with no reliance on DLC to enjoy all of it. With EA's day-1 pre-order DLC-packs and Ubisoft's "pay-to-multiplayer" and COD's paywall-community splits, I have to ask: In recent times, I have seen more complaints about DLC and "content-gouging" than ever before.
